Kevah supports a grass-roots Jewish learning movement in the following ways:
1. We identify, train and support Jewish educators.
Kevah identifies outstanding Jewish educators and matches them with an appropriate group or groups. This matching service is based on the understanding that not every educator is right for every group, and that a warm and collaborative relationship between teacher and group is critical to creating a positive learning environment. Kevah also offers teacher training workshops and a mentorship program to help our educators continually improve their practice.
2. We develop and share curricular resources.
Kevah provides curricular resources to educators and their groups. Topics are tailored to the interest of the host and participants, and are either based on learning a classical Jewish text such as the weekly Torah portion or a tractate of the Talmud, or an organizational theme such as Jewish mindfulness, healthy relationships, Jewish parenting and spiritual and personal growth.
3. We support group organizers.
While group organizers are responsible for convening their own group of 8-15 committed members, Kevah provides the institutional support to maximize the success of each Kevah group. This includes providing each group organizer with a template for inviting new members, access to quality educators, reminders before each meeting, billing of participants and payment of teachers, a staff member who works with each organizer to trouble-shoot problems when they arise, and the sharing of best practices between different group organizers.
4. We organize periodic learning and service opportunities.
Kevah organizes periodic intra-group gatherings and services for members. These include at least one community service day each semester, periodic Shabbat dinners, a Passover Seder matching program, and a meal delivery cooperative for unaffiliated families who have just had a new baby. These events introduce participants to the rhythm of the Jewish calendar and diversity of Jewish observances.
